Will Wisconsin’s Chaos Give Obama Room to Push Socialism?

by Ben Johnson

The protests in Wisconsin are a perfect representation of the American Left: loud, selfish, churlish, anti-democratic, and unshakably assured of their inalienable right to get paid for doing nothing. And make no mistake, the chaos rending Madison is precisely the future Barack Obama wishes for every state in the union, because only such radical paralysis can allow him to press forward with his unpopular agenda. That is why the president has sided with the left-wing crowd in Wisconsin in ways that some liberals believe may be unconstitutional (and thus impeachable).

Although left-wingers continually begged President Bush to demand the American people “sacrifice” during his administration, Big Labor has no intention of putting its own gains upon the altar. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has taken perhaps the most moderate, common sense course for a state facing a $3.6 million budget shortfall over the next two years. Not a single state employee will lose his job, not a single salary will be cut; he merely reduced the benefits package by asking public employees to pay for 12.6 percent of their health insurance. (They currently pay a whopping four percent; for every $40 they pay toward their benefits, taxpayers are on the hook for $960.) They must vote to recertify their union each year, and their pay raises will not exceed inflation – unless the voters approve it. The state will only match their retirement contribution, not pay 100 percent.

It is hard to work up much sympathy for the public sector’s plight. Most employees working in jobs that pay their salaries fear layoffs, are underemployed, or have no retirement plan at all.

Things have gotten so endemically out of hand because public employees are far more likely to be unionized than their private sector counterparts. They can demand larger salaries and, in many cases, threaten to strike if their wishes are not met. Since the state can always pay added benefits by raises taxes and fees, the public benefit structure has grown as quickly as the workforce itself.

Labor unions, violent minority organizations, extreme left-wingers, and illegal immigrants are the privileged caste of Obama’s America. All further the Left’s aims in some way. Big Labor buys its influence the old fashioned way. Former SEIU President Andy Stern stated flatly, “We spent a fortune to elect Barack Obama – $60.7 million to be exact – and we’re proud of it.” Other unions poured in millions more, as well as unleashing a torrent of “volunteers.”

Ironically, since many of these unions get their dues from state employees, that means the taxpayers are funding these protests for more taxpayer money. The protests are aimed at preventing the taxpayers from voting on government employees’ pay raises, or encouraging the legislature’s Democratic minority to ignore the will of the people in the last election.

How can the Left possibly sell a position so outside the mainstream to the American people?

How to Sell a Socialist Revolution

As Van Jones said, “Top-down, bottom-up, and inside-out.” The Obama administration will exert pressure from above, while “grassroots protesters” (union reps, George Soros’ Astroturf, and homeless people bribed for a pack of smokes or perhaps some crack) rally in mass protests. Their allies in the mass media do their best to brainwash the people that this excessively moderate step is an attack on the Constitution.

The top-down portion of the attack has been joined. Obama himself claimed Governor Walker is “just making it harder for public employees to collectively bargain generally, which “seems like more of an assault more on unions.” Obama’s Education Secretary Arne Duncan, who herds federal employees to Al Sharpton rallies, said Wisconsin teachers who skipped class to protest against the Republicans are “doing probably the most important work in society.”

The president’s support is more than rhetorical; he’s called up the footsoldiers for the Badger State Revolution. Obama dispatched Organizing for America, his campaign’s “grassroots” apparatus (read: perpetual revolution machinery), to the front to swell the crowds.

Some have taken pause at this. Liberal columnist Craig Crawford wrote in Congressional Quarterly he would “guess” Obama’s actions are legal, “but the constitutional implications are a bit worrisome.”

Meanwhile, the professional liberals are doing their part.

Hypocrites and Hatemongers

Jesse Jackson and AFL-CIO thug-in-charge Rich Trumka made pilgrimage to Madison. Rage Against the Machine, which is apparently still alive, scheduled a performance. Doctors are violating their Hippocratic Oath by giving out phony doctors excuses to allow teachers to get protest without missing a day’s pay (at taxpayer expense). Teacher union extremists – and no, not every member of a teachers union qualifies – put children first…by getting them to skip school and rally against the GOP. Protesters are parading with such signs as “Scott Walker = Adolf Hitler,” “Midwest Mussolini,” and signs depicting Walker with a Hitler moustache.

(Story continues after this video.)

The same forces are conducting or planning similar rallies in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

This is not by chance. Obama has continually expressed his hope the rabble-rouser Left would rise up in the streets to “force” him to the Left. That is why the Obamas’ intimate friend, Marilyn Katz, has called for a new “national grassroots vehicle” to paralyze America in the streets. Obama can then play the moderate by advocating a “compromise” more liberal than he could have gotten under any other means.

The media are doing their part, as well. They have universally reported the standoff as Republicans “stripping” state employees of their “rights.” Despite the media distortion, a new Rasmussen poll finds that 48 percent of all voters side with the governor over the unions.

Standing Tall

Despite the pressure, Republican state senator Dale Schultz, who was endorsed by the state’s largest teachers union, offered a compromise to halt government employees’ collective bargaining – then reinstate it in 2013. Democratic State Sen. Jon Erpenbach, who with his fellow Democrats has fled the state, is having none of it. “The collective-bargaining language has to be removed altogether,” he ordered. “Collective bargaining isn’t a fiscal issue”

So far, neither is Scott Walker: “These tens of thousands of protesters have every right to be heard,” he acknowledged. “But there are 5.5 million people in this state, and those taxpayers also have a right to be heard. I, for one, am not going to let the protesters overshadow, or shout out, the interest of the state’s taxpayers. And I believe that they are with us in trying to balance this budget.”

If legislators and teachers do not want to work, we should give them their wish and fire the lot.

No one watching should forget the scenes that are spreading from Madison to Indianapolis, from Lansing to Columbus. The Left is such a tiny minority of American voters that it can only operate by provoking a crisis (or by executive fiat). This is the dress rehearsal for Obama’s next two, or six, years if the American people do not resist.

Madison is home to the Univ. of Wisc. so it’s easy to round up a bunch of brain-washed college kids to protest even if they don’t know what they’re protesting. I was a union steward for 23 years and I have seen unions destroy their workforces. If a company can’t afford the wages and benefits, they’ll move somewhere where they can. California is a prime example. I live in Cal. and have watched the liberals and unions slowly drain this state and send it down the tubes. Greedy bastards and still at it. I hope the people of Wisconsin wake up and side with there governor because he is right and needs backing.

  2. Penny Patterson says:

I hope this lets the private sector employees know exactly how the unions and the public sector union employees feel. The unions and protesters feel entitled. I have said for many years that the unions in the US have out lived their usefulness and should be done away with and I do hope that they are. I also hope that Mr. Obama’s involvement is proven to be and impeachable act and that he will be impeached, I hope that every teacher is fired and replaced, and that if the Dems don’t come back this week that an election will be held and they will all be replaced and the Dr’s. writing excuses for these people should all have their license’s yanked. This idiocy needs to stop and the Dems need to come back and stop acting like a bunch of two year old whiney brats! The Dems have been a disgrace for decades maybe it is time to replace the Democratic Party period!

  3. ccasagram says:

Shame on the Union Thugs and the Teachers for their pathetically bad behavior. Using images of Hitler is beyond hateful. They have shown their complete disregard for their communities, and the tax payers they work for. They have shown how selfish they really are. Fire them, replace them with people that will appreciate what those of us in the private sector do not have. All States need to get rid of Unions for the Public Sector. There is no competition in the public sector. The public sector is not in the business of making a profit. The public sector has become a spoiled unappreciative leach on its master, and needs to be weaned. If those of you in the public sector do not like this, go into the private sector and become a contributor to the economy, and create jobs. Like us, you can pay for all of your own retirement and health care. I pray the Governor holds his position and shows the rest of the country, what they also need to buck-up and do. We need to make illegal the Public Sector Unions, they are bad for America.

  4. Irosin says:

These left wingers and progressives who are demonstrating and the Democrat thugs who have exited the state are the same ones who want the redistribution of wealth but NOT when the wealth comes from them. WHAT HYPOCRITES!

  5. Irosin says:

I SAY FIRE THEM ALL and HIRE SOME PEOPLE WHO REALLY WANT TO WORK.

    • rjwmsiii says:

I agree. Fire the democrats who fled the state so they would not be forced to work at the positions to which they wre elected. Ith the firing, the state government can then function with the smaller number which will also help the budget.
As to the teachers, if they present those bogus sick notes or called in sick, dock their pay for the time off with the stipulation that any future occurance could mean being fired.

      • Irosin says:

Thank you. I would like to know when common sense went out the window. ALL THESE ISSUES CAN BE SOLVED WITH COMMON SENSE!

What the F… is wrong folks? Why are "We the People" not uprising like they did in Egypt? The biggest most important issue in America today is Obammy boy and his crew of crooked czars! Period!!! We need to drive Obammy boy and his buddy criminals out of the United States of America. Then, and only then, can we start to rebuild the Great U S of America. Yes we can. It is NOT TO LATE, we can take back America and we can repair all the damages Obammy boy and all the other Liberal Democrats have caused, created, and or supported and promoted to bring down our Christian and Constitutional land. They want radical islamic rule along with Sharia Law to rule in America. Wake up NOW and fight for what your parents and grandparents came to America for…. a better life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness.

    1. Why isn't anyone on TV/News putting up a comparison chart of how many union to non-union workers there are in this country?

    2. Do another chart showing the average of what union workers as opposed to non-union workers, earn and what they pay for health care and pensions.

Probably the majority of middle class, non-union workers make far less than the union workers, and pay way more for their health care…and more than likely don't even have pensions!!!!

    Let's get real.

Whaaaaaaat?….it's not like they're, ya know, tea partyers or anything. Dont you realize these folks are just representing the PEOPLES REPUBLIC? And the reason we don't rise up as in Egypt is because we are NOT communists or barbaric 3rd world theocracies. The governor is doing precisely what he was sent there to do and all we need to do is support him and not be bamboozled by the state run media. Our turn comes again in 2012!

  11. Angelicsweep says:

The unions served a purpose back in the day, but they are not serving any purpose today other than destroying America. The unions are the very reason jobs started going south and over seas by their demands for higher wages. Now the unions are little more than dictatorships. The little people who they were supposedly supposed to champion, are little more than chattle to them. The people have no say in what is done with their dues and are expected to vote how the UNION wants them to vote. I would not call this freedom of any sort. Most people who join the union do so under duress.

What the left is doing has some kind of technical term that I can not summon at the moment, but what they are doing is transferring onto the Tea Party, Republicans and all SANE people what they are in actuality…THEY are the hate mongers, the ones who are destroying America, the liars, etc. They ARE everything they are throwing at US and with the help of the media, are twisting it around to where sheeple are falling for it!

  12. Raymond says:

How much longer will you disobey God!

Romans 1:18-25 KJV For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; (19) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. (20) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (21) Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. (22) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, (23) And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. (24) Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: (25) Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

  13. Raymond says:

Former Catholic theologian says much of the clergy is homosexual
The former publisher of a conservative Catholic magazine has claimed that a large share of Catholic clergy is homosexual…
Theologian David Berger…As a homosexual man himself, he told Der Spiegel in an interview that living among the Catholic homophobia was a nightmare….
…“It must be acknowledged that a large number of Catholic clerics and trainee priests in Europe and the United States are homosexually-inclined,” he said…
…“The worst homophobia in the Catholic Church comes from homophile priests, who are desperately fighting their own sexuality,” he said…“Obviously, those who follow their urges are repudiated more fiercely when one is so painfully repressing that disposition oneself.”
…working as a teacher in Cologne, Berger outed himself as homosexual this April after the Bishop of Essen Franz-Josepf Overbeck described homosexuality as perverse and a sin during an appearance on a television chat show.
Berger’s book about his experiences within the Church The holy illusion – a homosexual theologian in the Catholic Church which is published this week.

This morning a coalition of Muslim leaders warned the United States that if military action against Muslim countries continues, they intend to cut off America 's supply of 7-11 Managers and Motel 6 Managers.

If this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by DELL, AT&T, Norton, and AOL customer service reps.

Finally, if all else fails, they have threatened to not send us any more candidates for president either.

    It's gonna get ugly, people!

    • madmemere says:

Thanks, for a few "giggles" Raymond! But tell me why the dems have, so loudly called for "civility", yet they are the very last to show any? Oh, I know the answer-their "demands" only apply to other people.

  16. chollybygolly says:

The NEA/AFT cabal did this in Oklahoma in the early 90s. They got away with it, getting a bill passed that ceded them everything they wanted at the time (I think they're discontent again now, though). This inspired me to join the Committee for Oklahoma Education Reform. I became Chairman, and stayed for seven years, leaving in 2000 to move to Texas where there is still a vestige of capitalism and a tiny whiff of civil freedom left.

The Committee had a plan — ten years in the making — to bring market forces to bear on the problems of public education by making public schools compete with one another, as with private schools, through a system of vouchers. The plan took the form of an amendment to the Oklahoma State Constitution, which is where the only mandate for a tax-paid public education in that state resides, and was tested in hundreds of speeches, cold calls, and small group meetings all over the state. I left when it became quite obvious that people were quite content with their public schools, thank you, and had no desire to bring reprisals upon their children by rocking any boats. Such is the power of the teachers' unions.

I think I could dredge the plan up if someone would like to revive it in Oklahoma or in another state. If someone wants to do it in Texas, I'd be happy to participate. This would be a good TEA Party project.

I recall, too, that the Democrats in the Texas Senate took off in the Wisconsin senate's criminally irresponsible way over reapportionment in the wake of the 2000 census. Tom Delay is still being persecuted today by trash elements of our political shystery over this issue, which is coming back to life even now. (Send him some money). It may be consoling to remember that these very Democrats had their glutei maximi handed to them in the following year's election.

I think things are different now from the days when impeached ex-President Bill Clinton could win perfect acceptance among his Democrats of the bitch-knows-she-loved-it defense against Juanita Broderick. I sure hope so!

  17. TaterSalad says:

Please let your voice & opinions be heard and join the following Tea Party websites to become part of the movement in taking our country back from liberal/progressive left wing loons who are destroying capitalism and the Free Market System that has built this great country:

The Conservative Party is "fighting" two wars within our own borders as we speak. The first one is with the liberal/progressive Party of Food Stamps and the second is with Muslims trying to bring Sharia Law into America and its court systems and making the U.S. Islamic/Sharia compliant. Both of these wars have to be won or the U.S. and its Constitution will fail. Defeating liberalism will defeat Sharia Law since Muslims are using liberalism and the gullible, Democratic base as their vehicle to advance their radical agenda here in the U.S.
