Poll: 60% of Tea Party, Nearly Half of GOP Support Impeaching Obama

by Ben Johnson

A new poll reported in an unlikely source shows a broad majority of Tea Party members and roughly half of all Republicans support impeaching Barack Obama. More than 1,000 registered voters were asked, “Would you support or oppose the impeachment of President Obama?” Among those who describe themselves as Tea Party members, a full 60 percent support impeachment. An additional 16 percent are unsure.

Among Republicans, 48 percent support impeachment and 22 percent are unsure.

A Democratic Poll on a Left-Wing Website

Public Policy Polling, which is described as “an American Democratic Party-affiliated polling firm based in Raleigh,” conducted the survey from March 4-6. Its results appeared on the left-wing website the Daily Kos.

Overall, 26 percent of Americans would like to see the president impeached, and 14 percent are undecided.

Surprisingly, 14 percent of Democrats and 13 percent of liberals favor impeaching their own president. An Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll last October found 47 percent of Democrats “said Obama should be challenged for the 2012 nomination,” although no modern president who faced a primary challenge has been re-elected. Many Democrats on the ballot in 2012 fear an anti-Obama backlash will doom their chances, and doctrinaire left-wingers have questioned whether they would be better off with another president.

For some reason the mainstream media, which have been known to spin their own polls, have chosen to ignore this poll altogether.

Sampling Skews Left

The poll’s sample seems to give undue weight to those on the Left. PPP indicates 24 percent of its respondents come from union households. However, only 17 percent of voters in 2010 came from union households and only 21 percent in 2008. Similarly, self-described Democrats outnumber Republicans by four percent. Since union household members tend to be more liberal than average Americans, the poll likely undercounts the number of Americans who support impeachment. However, its internal data are significant.

Although Obama claims to represent the downtrodden, the poorest Americans are most likely to want him removed from office. Forty three percent of those making less than $30,000 want to see Obama impeached as compared to 14 percent of Americans making more than $100,000. Two-thirds of the wealthiest have a favorable view of Obama.

Southerners are the most likely to favor impeachment; people who live on the West Coast are least likely. Only five percent of Asians support impeachment, the lowest of any ethnic group and far lower than blacks (16 percent). There is no significant difference among age groups.

Are RINOs, Beltway Conservatives Out of Touch with their Supporters?

The poll numbers are all the more remarkable since there is no meaningful public call to impeach Barack Obama from the establishment Republicans or the inside-the-Beltway conservative movement. So far only one Congressman, Rep. Trent Franks or Arizona, has publicly stated he would favor impeachment. Franks told the blog ThinkProgress.org he would “absolutely” impeach Barack Obama and/or Attorney General Eric Holder over their refusal to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). He has since stood by his words. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich raised the issue of impeachment only to scurry away from it.

Some conservatives who receive media exposure seem to belittle the idea. Even many callers to Rush Limbaugh‘s program say the Republican presidential nominee in 2012 should avoid criticizing Obama.

However, a growing number of national figures have called for the president to be held accountable for his dereliction of duty. Former Congressman Tom Tancredo, former Nixon administration official Howard Phillips, ACORN expert Matthew Vadum, and the Pajamas Media blog have joined talk show hosts Bryan Fischer and Tammy Bruce in saying the president’s lawless behavior rises to the level of impeachment.

This means the Beltway Republicans and the conservative establishment are to the Left of many of their own supporters. Those who support Constitutional government have warned them they risk alienating the grassroots in their rush to curry favor with Washington’s ruling elite. This poll shows how successful grassroots movements can be without them — and why we must continue our efforts.

  1. ReverendRay says:

A famous quote is applicable here, " GIT ER DONE!"

  2. I’m generally skeptical of “polls.” It’s irrefutable that Barack Obama,

to include his AG, Eric Holder, have been conducting themselves

unlawfully. We must stay the course and continue to collect evidence

about their unlawful activities. We must continue to:

    (1) Stress Obama’s questionable eligibility.

    (2) Be ready to draft articles of impeachment against both.

    (3) Contact every state governor and every state attorney general to

pass eligibility legislation in preparation for 2012.

    (4) Continue to petition the leaders of the GOP, especially, Daryll Issa, to

    investigate & challenge Obama’s eligibility.

    (5) Keep these issues alive and continue to inform the American public

regarding Obama’s rogue tactics. This will not be easy as we have the

mainstream media (America’s Pravda) to fight, but we must never falter

if we are to save and preserve our Republic. We are also fighting the Soros

machine which is well organized and well funded. Make no mistake about

it, fellow Patriots, we are in the fight of our lives!

  3. dennisridley says:

If Barack Obama is not impeached, why do we have that provision in our Constitution? If the train of abuses which can be documented for this president are not sufficient, what for heaven's sake ever will be sufficient?

  4. TaterSalad says:

As a Tea Party Member myself……….I'd put the percent at 85 to 90% to impeach Barack Obama!

    • donjusko says:

I'm a Tea Party member but was tricked into becoming a Dem with his lies. We will win because we can all see through 0.

  5. VirgoVince says:

WHY NOT ARREST him first, to find out if he's a legitimate president; if he IS, then impeach him and throw his ugliness into Gitmo with his comrades, repeal everything he, or his czars have done and give us back OUR country! If NOT, just throw his ugliness into Gitmo with his comrades, repeal everything he, or his czars have done and give us back OUR country!
Either way, they belong in Gitmo for being the terrorists they are and trying to destroy us all!
    NO leniency, nor appeals!!

    • BobVelon says:

I agree. They are also guilty of treason. I keep hearing all this talk of impeachment and that is all it is, talk…We need action not talk and get him out period.

Impreachment is not good enough he needs to be thrown into prison and everything he did needs to be thrown out because all of it is illegal because he is NOT an American he was born either in Kenya and eveyone knows it but people in power were paid to very well to shut up.

  7. hijinx60 says:

I can't find one sinngle reason to keep his arrogant a** in office or out of prison.

    • carolrhill814 says:

I couldn't agree with you more if I tried but to bad ABC, CBS and all the others wouldn't join in this choir because there would be so much more punch but they are to busy being in his back pocket.

I know this because all of sudden ABC.NEWS.COM blocked me from expressing myself because what I said about him the reason why I know I called them and they told me and demanded they unblock me and they did. I wanted to go through the phone and punch them in the face.

He needs to get GONE TODAY and that is a fact.

Are you aware that the Saudis are boycotting American products? In
addition, they are gouging us on oil prices.
    Shouldn't we return the favor?
Can't we take control of our own destiny and let these giant oil importers
know who REALLY generates their profits, their livings? How about leaving
American Dollars in America and reduce the import/export deficit?
An appealing remedy might be to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up
your car you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia .
Just purchase gas from companies that don't import their oil from the

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill up my
tank, I'm sending my money to people who I get the impression want me, my
family and my friends dead. The following gas companies import Middle
    Eastern oil:

    Shell………………………………. 205,742,000 barrels
    Chevron/Texaco………………… 144,332,000 barrels
    Exxon /Mobil…………………… 130,082,000 barrels
    Marathon/Speedway…………. 117,740,000 barrels
    Amoco…………………………… 62,231,000 barrels

And CITGO oil is imported from Venezuela who's Dictator Hugo Chavez hates
America and openly avows our economic destruction! (We pay Chavez's regime
nearly $10 Billion per year in oil revenues!)

The U.S. Currently imports 5,517,000 barrels of crude oil per day from OPEC.
If you do the math at $100 per barrel, that's over $550 million PER DAY
($200 BILLION per year!) handed over to OPEC, many of whose members are our
confirmed enemies!!!!! It won't stop here – oil prices could go to $200 a
barrel or higher if we keep buying their product.

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
    Sunoco…………………….0 barrels
    Conoco…………………….0 barrels
    Sinclair……………………..0 barrels
    BP/Phillips………………..0 barrels
    Hess…………………………0 barrels
    ARC0……………………….0 barrels
    Maverick…………………..0 barrels
    Flying J……………………..0 barrels
    Valero……………………….0 barrels
    Murphy Oil USA *……..0 barrels

All of this information is available from the U.S. Department of Energy and
each company is required to state where they get their oil and how much they
    are importing.

  11. Raymond says:

In a historic vote last night, the Wisconsin Senate approved the most critical part of Governor Scott Walker’s budget repair bill.

By eliminating collective bargaining over benefits, Obama’s bloated public employee unions no longer have absolute power to hold taxpayers hostage.

No longer will Wisconsin’s liberal politicians award lavish pension and health benefit packages to their union cronies in exchange for a mother-load of campaign cash and votes.

    What happened?

The Wisconsin Senate requires a quorum to vote on any bill that spends money. This is how the 14 AWOL senators shamefully managed to block a vote on Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill.

So Republicans simply stripped the non-fiscal portion off of the bill. The Senate then voted on it as a stand-alone measure, one that doesn’t spend money!

This is a huge victory not only for Wisconsin, but for all of America.

Robert Reich, who served as President Clinton’s Labor Secretary, admits Wisconsin will reverberate nationwide.

He says: “I wouldn’t be surprised if governors in New Jersey … and also in Indiana and other Midwestern states – where you have Republican governors, who believe they are in the ascendancy – take some courage from all of this.”

    Liberals Enraged

No surprise, after disgracing the office they hold, the 14 AWOL senators now say they’ll return to Wisconsin from their Illinois hideout.

And they’re vowing to escalate the fight to a new level.

One of Obama’s allies is Michael Moore, a Hollywood-leftist filmmaker.

He’s calling for a nationwide “student walk-out” on Friday to protest Wisconsin, and is demanding jail time for Scott Walker.

A guest on MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow Show," an enraged Moore declared "The rich have committed these crimes and the people will demand your ass is in jail… we have a right to your money!"

Clearly, Michael Moore has gone nuts.

  12. texasgranny47 says:

This man who calls himself president thinks that he is above the law and every conservative in this country should call their Congressman everyday until we get this Congress to move on the issue of Impeachment. If the status quo Republicans won’t do it then they can be replaced by Tea Party candidates next election. This anti-American must go!

  13. Shucksters says:

The only problem I had with this article was a heading that suggested that RINOS and Beltway Conservatives are out of touch with their supporters. I do not support ANY RINO and the Beltway Conservatives who are out of touch with Conservative values are not Conservatives, they are RINOs.

Screw 'em. Next election they will be gone.

  14. RustyNails69 says:

I am totally against impeaching the usurper, BUT, I do support arresting him, trying him for High Treason, convicting him and then persecuting the usurper to the fullest extent of the law.

    • 05Magnum says:

I agree with you 100%, however I do not trust the courts to try him. The crooked gutless courts have turned down many lawsuits filed for the ILLEGAL S.O.B in the Presidents Office to show all of his records. The courts are as crooked & Gutless as our so called Reps in Congress.

  15. donjusko says:

Well we will see if the students have been dumbed down enough to go along with Moore

  16. TomJeffers says:

Look Floyd and all, I am in total agreement with you all but look, put up or shut up. You know what I mean? You have been ranting for a year now to no percevably avail. Get with the program and quit milking the populace. You are starting to piss me off. You and people like you are why the tea party is not being believed.
    Tom Jeffers

    • jparchery02 says:

first off Tommy boy, the tea party was not born out of hatred of or for obama it was conceived by patriots who believed our govt , all govt, had gotten out of control and was spending our country in a hole, chairman obama and the communist democrat party proved this with their 5 trillion dollar spending spree and the HC bill , and the reason most tea party members have recently voted for the impeachment of this muslim usurper is his dereliction of duty in regards to picking and choosing which laws this administration decides it wants to up hold , so if your pissed off too bad ,and if your not a believer then your not an American who thinks our constitutional laws should be upheld and that would mean your not one of us anyway

  17. dennisridley says:

Impeachment and removal from office was placed in the Constitution for reason. Only two presidents were impeached — Andrew Johnson and William Jefferson Clinton — and their side won in the Senate trial; they were not removed from office. Richard Nixon would have been impeached and removed from office had he not resigned. If this president does not qualify as a case to invoke impeachment, after the train of abuses he has perpetrated and continues to do, what conceivable use can be made of the impeachment provision in the future. This non-use of a wise provision is not what the founders had in mind.

    • RustyNails69 says:

Impeachment is not enough. Impeachment assumes that the puppet was actually eligible to be President, thusly allowing any law that he has signed to remain in effect pending Congressional oversight. As this eligibility is most apparently not true if he is arrested, tried and convicted as an usurper then any law he has signed is null and void.

      He must be found ineligible!

  18. jimtibbs says:

I think its past time to run this guy out of town, but when are our overpaid polititions going to institute the impeachment process? They know how bad he is.

  19. freefalling56 says:

I agree with getting Obama out! I don't think you can Impeach a president who is not a citizen, I have read. If Obama were a citizen, he would have not concealed his records through 11 law firms in 12 states, and my question to Pelosi is why did she supposively falsified his records using Obama's half sister Live Birth Records in Hawaii, Mayo Soetoro, to make Obama's records legit? Pelosi, Holder are the two that really know about Obama's background and how he got here. Supposively, Obama's SSN is from Connecticut…from a deceased person and he is from Hawaii?? Too many questions unanswered here. Yes, arrest him first and only then can we begin to heal our nation. There must be Government Reform and stiffer regulations on who can become president. Limit Terms, more accountability and penalties for not following guidelines AND put the power in the peoples hands to be able to get these people out sooner if the country is going in the wrong direction. Lets get the ball rolling now and get Obama out!!

  20. TaterSalad says:

A National "Right-to-Work Bill" is being introduced in Congress that will cover ALL 50 states and protectorates. This is going to make Unions voluntary and paying dues voluntary, the way it should be. Not forced upon somebody who wants to make a living for himself and his family.

We need to now contact all of our Senators and tell them to support this legislation!

  21. We're at war in Iraq and Afghanistan? You wouldn't know it from the media, and the "war protests" that used to get coverage.

I guess to a war protester the war stops being wrong when it's a Dem in command. Wait until Obama's out of office, though, and we'll see them out again, and the Nora O'Donnells will report it as "They've been patient but now…"

  22. fxgeorges says:

Obama is not an American Citizen, he was taught muslim beliefs and he doesn't care about America or it's people.

Look at all of the hidden things on the new so called health care reform, one of them is an outrageous tax imposed on people deciding to sell their homes.

Obama and Pelosi should both be impeached, a lot of people want to pass the buck on Bush for the problems, but not all it is his fault.

  23. Raymond says:

For the most part, Americans take the incompetence, selfishness and greed, which characterize many of our current politicians, in stride. However, the Obama administration is not merely incompetent, selfish and greedy, they are actively committing high treason against the very people who elected them. This betrayal of the highest order could very well result in the destruction of America.

  24. Raymond says:

A social worker from San Francisco California recently
transferred to the Mountains of West Virginia and was on the first tour
of her new territory when she came upon the tiniest cabin she had
ever seen in her life.. Intrigued, she went up and knocked on the door..

    "Anybody home?" she asked.

"Yep," came a kid's voice through the door.

"Is your father there?" asked the social worker.

"Pa? Nope, he left afore Ma came in," said the kid.

"Well, is your mother there?" persisted the social worker.

"Ma? Nope, she left just afore I got here," said the kid.

"But," protested the social worker, "are you never together as a family?"

"Sure, but not here," said the kid through the door. "This is the outhouse!"

These are the people that put a muslim in the oval office.
