Obama’s Homeland Security Dept. Promotes Al Jazeera

by Ben Johnson

National security has fallen so far under Barack Obama that a high-ranking official in the Department of Homeland Security is berating American cable companies for not carrying Osama bin Laden’s favorite television network.

Juliette Kayyem, the assistant secretary for intergovernmental affairs at the DHS, wrote an op-ed in the Boston Globe this week entitled, “Let US See Al-Jazeera.” (Capitalization in original.) In it, she rakes ign’ernt Americans over the coals for not appreciating Al Jazeera English (AJE), the Anglophone counterpart to Al-Jazeera. Kayyem writes that cable providers should be “promoting engagement in the Arab world” by “bringing a major player in the Arab world to American audiences.”

Typical of the Obama administration’s approach to all forms of conflict, Kayyem wants America to step aside, promote Islamic interests, and hope our enemies will reciprocate our selfless acts of goodwill. In this case, she wants a major Islamic fundamentalist propaganda outlet beamed into 300 million infidel homes. “AJE’s battle with the cable carriers is major news in the Middle East,” she writes. Not carrying the network “sends a message to the Arab world.” Although she reassures her readers, “Cable companies have no obligation to run programming,” she warns that shunning AJE is “understood by the Arab world as a value-laden decision about America’s lack of desire to hear from the Arab world about the Arab world.”

There is the little matter of the Al-Jazeera’s famously close relationship with terrorists and long history of airing Hate America programming. She claims the belief that AJE’s programming “is merely anti-American propaganda” results from its poor “relationship wth [sic.] the Bush administration.” Another Republican mess Obama is cleaning up!

Kayyem praises the network’s coverage of the recent riots in Egypt. “While US news corporations scrambled to get people and equipment to the region,” she writes, “AJE was already there, at the forefront of documenting the Egyptian government’s atrocities and demise.” Indeed, Islamic terrorists have wanted to topple Egypt’s government for at least a generation; covering Mubarak’s “atrocities” furthered that goal.

Her pen drips with elitism as she complains that greedy television providers give Americans the programming they want instead of force-feeding them the broadcast diet the Obama administration would prefer. She grouses, “My own [cable TV] carrier offers no fewer than four sports history channels and five providing variations of country music.” Sports and country music? Why, hicks watch that stuff! In her other public pronouncements, she has berated the TV show 24.

Civil Rights Lawyer; Muslim Minority Advocate

Such writing should hardly surprise us. Kayyem is a former civil rights attorney who opposes racial profiling for terrorists. She served as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the quota-obsessed Clinton White House. The Harvard Law Bulletin reports that, as an adviser to Janet Reno on terrorism, she “came to believe that within the FBI and the Immigration and Naturalization Service, there was a bias against…Muslims which the Justice Department had a responsibility to address.” Now she wants the government to make good for its tragic history by serving Muslim interests.

A Costly Outreach

Taxpayers are already paying $1.5 million a year to put Al-Jazeera on public radio airwaves. Two of the three sites attacked on 9/11 now have at least one hour of Al-Jazeera radio piped in over publicly funded Pacifica Radio stations.

This is not even the first attempt at a “moderate” Muslim television presence. Our most recent encounter with Islamic diversity on the airwaves was Bridges TV. Last week, a jury convicted its founder, Muzzammil “Mo” Hassan, of beheading his wife, Aasiya, in its hallways in February 2009. USA Today reports they returned a guilty verdict on second-degree murder, and “Hassan faces up to life in prison.” Which is far more lenient than Islamic law.

Kayyem’s not-so-subtle pressure on American carriers to run Islamic fundamentalist programming joins numerous other Obama initiatives to give more airtime to its friends and deny airtime to its political foes.

Redistributing the Airwaves

Most recently, Al Sharpton has met with FCC officials to try to have Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives branded racists and denied the right to broadcast over talk radio, the one medium liberals do not overwhelmingly dominate. The Congressional Black Caucus has pushed for a federal bailout of minority-owned media outlets, which skew far-Left.

On Valerie Jarrett’s advice, Barack Obama plucked Mark Lloyd from the Center for American Progress and appointed him the Federal Communications Commission’s first “Diversity Czar.” At a Conference on Media Reform: Racial Justice, Lloyd said:

[W]e have really, truly good white people in important positions [in the media]. And the fact of the matter is that there are a limited number of those positions. And unless we are conscious of the need to have more people of color, gays, other people in those positions we will not change the problem. We’re in a position where you have to say who is going to step down so someone else can have power. (Emphasis added.)

Kayyem’s op-ed proves the Obama administration has a multi-agency, all-hands-on-deck push to reward its constituents. Muslims fit neatly alongside blacks, Hispanics, American Indians, homosexuals, and unmarried women in the constellation of preferred minority groups the administration wishes to empower.

Redistributing the airwaves to these selected classes dovetails with Obama’s overall redistribution agenda. It can be seen in his stealth reparations to minorities. He was remarkably upfront about his guiding ideology in his 2001 interview with Chicago public radio, in which he called for “redistributive change.”

Now his Department of Homeland Security is trying to redistribute world power, one TV set at a time.

Personally , I would prefer that he and his minions demand that all channels " channel " fox news and expose us to American truths rather than Muslim , or for that matter , china propaganda . We are already exposed to the most treacherous proaganda on earth , that of the so-called American mainstream media .

  6. Shucksters says:

I think it is time to do an "Egypt" on obama and soros. It took less than 100,000 protesters. We have millions ready to dump these freaks.

    Trusted Travelers of North America

WND previously reported that on Nov. 30, 2010, DHS Secretary Napolitano and Mexican Ministry of the Interior Secretary José Francisco Blake Mora signed an agreement expressing their intent to develop a Global Entry international trusted traveler pilot program between the United States and Mexico that Mexico estimated would allow 84 million Mexicans to apply for Trusted Traveler of North America biometric border pass cards for rapid entry into the United States.

Four years ago, on Sept. 27, 2006, WND reported that the Department of Transportation acting through a Security and Prosperity Partnership "working group" was preparing to issue North American biometric border passes to Mexican, Canadian and U.S. "trusted travelers," according to documents released to WND under a Freedom of Information Act request.

The agreement Napolitano signed with Mexico on Nov. 30 appears to bring the SPP working group "trusted traveler" commitment closer to fruition.

As described on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website, the Trusted Traveler Program allows applicants to receive a biometric border pass to facilitate cross-border travel, after undergoing a thorough background check against criminal, law enforcement, customs, immigration and terrorist files, including biometric fingerprint checks and a personal interview with a CBP officer.

The "Trusted Traveler Network" is more completely described on the "Global Entry website maintained by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

"Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low risk travelers upon arrival in the United States," the CBP website proclaims. "Though intended for frequent international travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify for the program. Participants may enter the United States by using automated kiosks located at select airports."

As described on GlobalEntry.gov, the Global Entry kiosks look much like ATM machines placed to assist Trusted Travelers passing through U.S. ports of entry including airports:

First of all this kayyem needs to go back to the desert from which her heart lies. Does she not realise that we are savy to that BS. about to culture tolerance, the UK. just said it does not work, they have lost vast parts of their communities to muslims. This administration is so muslim, we need to be wide awake in the next two years, and God forbid if Oblunder wins reelection, all I can see is rebellion. And maybe the same if he loses. As for Al Sharpton, he is the biggest racist that has ever allowed to speak on national radio, and tv. It's so sad, this bum needs to crawl in a hole, and pull it in behind him. This rat has done more against this country in two years than Carter did in four.

  9. docboyer says:

Kayyem sounds like an idiotic BITCH and should be fired immediately then deported to Iran.

  10. docboyer says:

It is high time we stop coddling and accommadating the Muslims. Australia has it right. The Prime Minister has told the Muslims "obey our laws or get the hell out of here."

  11. grampatom42 says:

Ms. Kayyem is apparently a Muslim or Muslim sympathizer in the Obama administration, all of which I feel have no loyalty to America, are seeking to destroy America from within, and should be arrested, tried for treason, and either executed or deported. They should not have the luxury of being imprisoned at the expense of American taxpayers.

  12. RichardWagener says:

I am sick and tired of this administration bowing, and catering to our enemies, while leaving our tested and true allies hanging out to dry. Fifty years ago I raised my right hand and swore to protect my Country and its Constitution. This administration, in my opinion, are those domestic enemies referred to in that Oath.! But in those days we had real leaders who loved this country as I do. I was on a Destroyer Escort off the coast of Ecuador when President Kennedy told Russia to get it's Nuclear Missiles out of Cuba. He didn't have to say it twice. And Russia didn't doubt the consequences. They may not have liked Kennedy, but they sure as hell respected him, and knew he was a man of his word. Unlike the sad excuse for a President and leader that we have today.

As much as I hate to say it; Americans need to realize that 1) Islam continues to do as they say, 2) We need to understand that they're serious when they say they want to oppress or kill all who don't bow down to Allah – that's why they say "Allah Akbar – Allah is greater!!" and 3) they're using our freedoms against us!! A "pass" to Islam means the camel not only gets in your tent; he takes it over and kills you. Compromise is seen as weakness, sparing a life is seen as defeat (our consigning them to "life in prison" is the closest thing they've ever been to paradise – and that includes Gitmo!!) and they're very patient, "fighting the Infidels" (you and me) for 14 Centuries!!

  14. ROYSTOLL2 says:

It is time to vote this Anti-American Obama Administration out of office for good. In the meantime, write your Congressman or congresswoman and ask them to cut off funding for professional environmental groups, "community organizers", National Public Radio, and any special interest group with race or sexual preference in it's name. These people have one goal and that is to bring this country down. They used to be called Communists but that term is out of favor now. They just happen to have the same views and political idealologies as communists which is just coincidental, I am sure.
