Obama’s Drug of Choice: Welfare Addiction

by Susan Stamper Brown

Once upon a time, people’s hands were busy putting food on the table and they were too busy or too proud to consider extending those same hands out to the government for a handout. But that time has long passed, and time is running out before America the Great turns into America the Nanny State.

Let this Conservative go on record: When used properly, welfare can be a force for good for those most in need. Unfortunately, we have an administration, whose failed (0-97 in the Senate) 2011 budget bulged with middle-class handouts meant to expand the welfare state. Democrats are bent on making addicts of otherwise perfectly capable citizens to the designer drug of taxpayer dollars. In an attempt to make this addiction permanent, the administration rolled out Obamacare.

In 2008, anxiety over a failing economy and soaring costs of healthcare helped to propel Obama to the White House, but, three years later, and after the passing of Obamacare, the anxiety has morphed into anger – as the truth about this poorly constructed bill unfolds to find that it is nothing more than a compilation of mistakes, bloopers, paybacks and blunders that fix healthcare about as well as handing a bandage and bottle of blood thinner to a gunshot victim.

The most recent “blunder,” which involves dropping people from the middle class and rolling them onto the welfare rolls, will not only add billions of dollars of cost to the bill; it will throw millions of middle class retirees into the Medicaid program. Medicaid was created to help the most needy in our society. Medicare actuary, Richard Foster, told the House Budget Committee that a provision in Obamacare did not consider social security benefits when calculating eligibility for early retirees, effectively branding those making up to $64000 per year as destitute. Talk about the destruction of the middle class.

Most troubling is the White House admits Democrat lawmakers knew this provision was in the bill and passed it anyway. Come hell or high water, the Democrat-controlled Senate and House insisted on ramming Obamacare down the throats of Americans against our wishes, and did not care that it would apply more pressure to state budgets already buckling underneath the weight of exorbitant Medicaid costs.

Additionally, Obamacare adds an estimated 16 million to 20 million low-income childless adults to Medicaid programs that will be initially funded entirely by taxpayers. Although it was their desire to have a European style socialized healthcare system, Democrats created some sort of “Frankenstein” system that is bloated, clumsy and solves health issues like a wrecking ball helps to remodel a home. In this case, the US economy is a house of cards.

It seems like only yesterday Obama promised that everyone could keep their own healthcare plans, nor would he write any healthcare plan into law which added to the deficit. But, that was yesterday. Here is what’s happening today: The release of a McKinsey & Company survey found that due to Obamacare regulations, some 1300 employers will drop their employer health insurance plans, forcing as many as 78 million workers and families into Obamacare. A Price Waterhouse Cooper survey found half of all employers “indicated they were likely to change subsidies for employee medical coverage.” In a Wall Street Journal op-ed piece, Former Governor Phil Bredesen, warned that dropping employer coverage and forcing employees into taxpayer-funded Obamacare will become “very attractive to many employers, both public and private.”

“The problem with socialism,” said Margaret Thatcher “is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” The sand in the hourglass is getting low. Either America’s flirtation with socialism will run out of support, or America will run out of money.

I met a woman who had been on welfare all her life (she grew up on welfare). She had the gall to BRAG about all the good things that welfare gave her: a nice three bedroom house (4 years old), "lots of good food", her utilities, medical insurance, clothing, expenses for her three children and paid for her training at a vocational school to become a hair stylist. When she realized that she would be on her feet most of the day, she didn't even bother to look for a job. Now she is "trying to decide what she wants to do next". She is in her late 30's, physically able and her youngest child starts school this fall. Multiply this attitude by millions and you can see what a problem we are facing. There is nothing required of them except to go to the mailbox and pick up the check once a month. Is she a welfare addict? YES!

I am 57 years old and have witnessed generational welfare my entire life. My Grandmother had domestic help and every time she needed more money, she had another child…8…12…and never married. This country needs to cut off the milk. Norplant if you're on welfare…you shouldn't be able to have kids and expect your neighbor to feed, clothe, house, immunize and educate them; if the people are on welfare…make them work–go clean a building, mop a floor…something must be required from them. They should perhaps have to repay the money.
Maybe they should forfeit their right to vote while they are on welfare…after all they have "no skin in the game." They are risking absolutely, contributing nothing so they should have no say.

I know a few of those kind in S. Florida….but their drug addicts big time but get a check every month so they can go to a cpl of the drug places to get their bags of drugs every month to sell for extra money..so they can keep getting the drugs..and the Drs. at the two places take cash only..so there pockets of money would choke a horse everyday….i owned a cpl business and they used to come in when they needed there bikes fixed or needed new locks and brag about never having to work because the governement takes good care of them every month….i finally got sick of them and banned them from my businesses for good..

I'm a single Father with a 14 year old son and I'm on Medicare due to 6 bqack surgeries.I'd love to be able to go back to work but I can't.I can't even get insurance on my son because our government say's I get $39.48 to much each month for him to qualify. To read about how so many people abuse the system and depend on it for a livng makes me sick.I worked for over 30 years and paid into the system to get what I recieve each month while other's have never worked a day in their life.I belive anyone recieving government help should have to take a pyhical and if they're able to work then cut them off. They should also be drug tested randomly just like working people are and they should not be eligible to vote. Why work when you can just vote in the people who are willing to give you other people's money to live on?

  6. Obama's drug of choice is cocaine. He did a sh*tload of it during his college years and after. With high probability he's still doing it at the "White" House with some of his radical terrorist buddies, e.g., Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dorn, Van Jones, et al. Is it any wonder why this guy is clueless and has a nasty streak???? Doesn't take a rocket scientist (or medical doctor/psychiatrist) to figure out what this guy is on.

I am a 17 year old mother in my last year of highschool. I live with a bunch of girls who do depend on welfare because the place we live made us sign on to it. When I was pregnant I told everyone around me I would never be on welfare. But within two weeks of being in the shelter i live in brought me down to the welfare office and told me i had to go on it. Personally myself i think the only people who should be on welfare are people in shelters actually trying to further their education and the elderly.
