FloydReports.com has extensively covered the illegal standard Alaska’s Big Government GOP establishment has used to count write-in votes for incumbent Lisa Murkowski. Division of Elections Director Gail Fenumiai and Lt. Governor Craig Campbell told the media before the write-in vote count began that they would credit misspelled votes to Murkowski, although the law states a vote “may not be counted” unless “the oval is filled in for that candidate and if the name, as it appears on the write-in declaration of candidacy, of the candidate or the last name of the candidate is written in the space provided.” Fenumiai and Campbell instructed election officials to determine the “voter intent” behind each ballot cast. Representatives of Joe Miller’s campaign have stated such counts are necessarily subjective and open to abuse.
They could not have been more correct.
A source in Alaska told this reporter the counting boards appointed by Fenumiai awarded Murkowski at least one vote cast for “Mercowshit” and another for “Fuckowski.” These protest votes were credited for Murkowski on the grounds that two syllables of her last name were phonetically correct.
Joe Miller’s attorney, Thomas Van Flein, filed a preliminary injunction prevent just this sort of egregious voter fraud. His complaint stated, “Prior to the election, people commented on radio stations and in the comment sections in blogs and newspaper stories that they would deliberately incorrectly write-in a variant of ‘Murkowski’ as a protest.” The state’s decision to count such a ballot for Murkowski “nullifies the protest and falsely inflates the vote for the write-in candidate.
Instead of heeding concerns about government bureaucrats influencing the election, liberal bloggers at The Huffington Post and Talking Points Memo pilloried Van Flein and Miller for this assertion. TPM called the concept of misspelled protest votes “the strangest argument” it had heard during the Alaskan legal proceedings.
Allegations of vote-padding and ballot-stuffing have poured in during this unprecedented race. This author has exclusively reported additional, sworn affidavits from eyewitnesses in Alaska testifying that ballot boxes were stuffed with “hundreds”of ballots; that write-in ballots from the Native Alaskan villages of Cordova and Angoon were all written by the same person; that a Fairbanks ballot box was easily accessible and prime for voter fraud; and that major employers intimidated workers by driving them to the polls and giving them Murkowski campaign items to take inside the voting booth. Earlier, secret cameras caught federal contractors encouraging their employees to vote for Lisa Murkowski.
Murkowski’s campaign, including GOP lawyer Ben Ginsberg, argued by excluding misspelled votes, Alaska would be disenfranchising the uneducated. But Murkowski, hailing from a longstanding political dynasty, was intelligent enough to cozy up to Washington Beltway insiders and stick it to her Tea Party opponents during a victory lap trip to D.C.
After blasting Sarah Palin’s alleged lack of “intellectual curiosity,” curious Lisa told CBS “news” anchor Katie Couric, “I will tell you I am not one of those who wants Obama to fail. If he does well, that means the country’s doing well.”
(Story continues after the video.)
That was a rebuff to Rush Limbaugh’s much-maligned statement that he hopes Obama’s socialist designs fail.
Lisa Murkowski, a kinder, gentler Wanda Sykes.
Obama was at his peak during the past two years — and so was unemployment, inflation, government dependence, Congressional arrogance, and presidential lawlessness. This is apparently the agenda Murkowski is endorsing in her pointed criticism of her own party’s base.
But apparently this is what federal contractors, Native tribes, and family friends-in-high-places have imposed on the state.
