When you read the mainstream media or listen to Capitol Hill open border lobbyists, you’d believe that every alleged U.S. job shortage can only be solved with visas for foreign-born workers.
From Cape Cod, where restaurant owners clamor for employees to prepare lobster rolls to 3,000 miles away in the Silicon Valley where a “tech worker shortage” has Bill Gates demanding more software engineers, the solution proposed by elites is always more visas.
The truth is different. Summer resort jobs have long been the most desirable for college kids. And the Information Technology industry has a glut of unemployed American Ph.D.’s
Now, some in Congress urge passing the DREAM Act because, among other misleading reasons, the United States cannot persuade young people to fill its all-volunteer military force.
Under the erroneous theory that not enough Americans of age are willing to sign up, DREAM Act promoters offer to trade with illegal aliens a path to citizenship in exchange for a stint in the military.
Illinois Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, a DREAM Act champion, told the Army Times: “Largely due to the war in Iraq, the Army is struggling to meet its recruitment goals. Under the DREAM Act, tens of thousands of well-qualified potential recruits would become eligible for military service for the first time. They are eager to serve in the armed forces during a time of war.”
This is political cynicism at its worst. Regardless of how the DREAM Act fares in Congress, the harsh reality is that thousands of poor illegal aliens who, even though they may have high school diplomas, will not be accepted into college. With the citizenship via the military option, those are the most likely who might, out of shear desperation, enlist.
Simply put, the DREAM Act allows the United States to prey on society’s most vulnerable.
Here are a few things Durbin prefers that his illegal immigrant target audience doesn’t know. The military is dramatically different from any previous job young immigrants may have held. Once signed up, you can’t quit. In fact, you can be put in jail for showing up late—unlikely but legal under Section 86 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
If you press your luck and behave in a manner that leads to your dismissal, that’s called a “discharge”—most likely a “bad conduct discharge”—that will haunt you for the rest of your personal and professional life.
Did your high school teacher bug you when he insisted that you don’t talk in class and turn your assignments in on time? Good luck.
In the military someone always ranks above you. Get used to following his orders—what you may call “telling you what to do”—because, unlike your teacher who had less leverage, your superior officer can and will make your life miserable.
Some other glaring flaws in Durbin’s DREAM Act logic include ignoring the fundamental supply and demand law. With a sour economy and relentless 10 percent unemployment, suddenly the military seems more attractive to a host of graduates who a few years ago would not have considered it.
U.S. casualties are down in Iraq and Afghanistan so the reduced combat risk combined with the lure of a stable income that includes housing, food and health care as well as and the new post-9/11 G.I. Bill is suddenly attractive to a wider audience.
Unlike Senator Durbin, even the Army realizes that its potential market is greater than three years ago.
The Army’s promotions include a patriotic theme that emphasizes service to one’s country. As one ad goes: “When your country calls, you go. Proudly.”
The country referred to is America and the ad is directed at Americans.

I know it's a bother for the military pros, but universal conscription should be the new old normal.
The change I would support is that no one ,male or female , could vote in America until they have spent a minimum of four years in the U.S, Armed Forces . No one reguired to serve but no one voting that has not served . As for non-citizens , they would have to serve in the Armed services and go through citizenship training unless they actually see combat . This would take care of immature and uniformed American youth voting . Of course for now those that have already voted could continue , but adding to the rolls only those that serve in the future .
From the looks and sounds of it, America is not going to be America much longer. If we don’t get rid of this imposter and raving lunitic that is called a “president”, our country is going to be everything BUT AMERICA AND AMERICAN!
I do not beleive we have another 2 years to waste on this peice of lying filth in office. Everything we have ever held dear to our hearts, this “thing” has spit on and made a mockery of. Even down to us, the American people, he has disrespected us and made us a laughing stock to the entire world. And with this “NIGHTMARE/DREAM ACT” he and his cronies are out to ruin what is left of our country.

If we hope to survive as a nation, one with our freedoms and rights intact, we must immediately do whatever it takes to take back what belongs to us, the LEGAL CITIZENS OF AMERICA! Our jobs, our land, our borders, everything that belongs to us, we must take it back as soon as we can, yesterday if possible! It was before my generation (I'm 67) that the Army made men of several generations of young men, most of a by-gone generation of film stars held as part of their resume that they had honorably served either as enlisted or as officers in the military and many still enjoy (my 18 yo daughter does) films such as "Yankee Doodle Dandy" , John Philip Sousa and others espousing the military for a leg up (I myself served in Vietnam being a farm kid – Uncle Sam paid for my Masters)
An aside (or not) it would certainly gender some knowledge of what the military is about; countless "Americans" today have no idea much less such arcane subjects as the UCMJ.
The "Dream Act" is nothing more than a "deam" of the democrats to create a larger voting base and they are willing to sacrifice America in the process.
The Dream Act what a crock ,can you imagine that your a real Ameican and your kid chooses to a N Carolina school so he must pay out of state tuition but your an illegal wetback and they will give you in state tuition and to think N Carolina was once an American state not a tool of Mexico.This country is in rough shape and our politicians cater to the illegals which cost millions.The federal gov wants to cut medicare for old people instead they should cut mediaid and half of these illegal would be gone from the emergency rooms.

Reading these blogs tell me that there are still a lot of good old soldiers around. But what it also tells me is that patriotism is alive and well in my country. I see polititions as our worst enemy, and our gravest challenge to preserve for the ones who come behind us what we have fought for. People who have never been in the military sometimes take these things for granted, and those with some knowledge of them, may think that a foreign government may try to take them away. I caution these people, most of them young, and unassuming. Keep a weary on your polititions, and question them, for they are the one's who will take those rights away from you, right before your eyes.
I don't remember just when or who it was that stopped the Draft. Anyway, in my opinion, that was the dumbest thing they ever did. I believe everyone out of highschool should have to spend at least two years in the Military, & then we wouldn't have to be concerned about not having enough people. Further more, it would teach many of this younger generation, some manners & respect, & pride. Our Military was & still is the finest in the world, & for those who do not wish to remain in the service, many of them can learn a trade while in. I for one, am really sick & tired of the way our politicians (most of them lawyers) have screwed up this country. On top of that we have the Media, & the likes of idiots like Jane Fonda & the Hollywood croud.
