A Fool With a Badge is Still a Fool

by Michael Reagan

When a would-be assassin shot my Dad, President Ronald Reagan, nobody questioned the fact that the shooter was certifiably nuts.

Authorities recognized that fact and put him in a mental institution as his obvious disturbed mental state demanded.

Now we have another attempted killing of a public official, Arizona’s widely admired Rep. Gabby Giffords, and just about everybody recognizes the fact that the shooter, one Jared Loughner, is crazy as a loon.

Moreover, the fact that Loughner is probably nutty as a fruitcake, and perhaps dangerously so, could not have escaped the attention of local law enforcement authorities such as Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who already had Loughner in his sights yet failed to do anything to prevent Loughner’s foreseeable killing spree.

Yet we don’t hear a word of repentance for his failure to foresee what transpired in Tucson last Saturday. Not a word, mainly because Sheriff Dupnik is too busy attacking Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives to turn his rhetoric loose on the shooter.

In Dupnik’s twisted logic, Loughner may be a murderer but somehow or other it’s all Rush’s fault for his unforgivable habit of calling a spade a spade and referring to liberals as being mentally disjointed, as the majority of them are.

This kind of ridiculous response to a tragedy is becoming what the French would call de riguer — the liberal’s order of the day when one of their failures to recognize reality results in people getting killed.

As my more plainspoken friends would put it, Dupnik shoulda seen it coming, and he’s now trying to obfuscate that fact by striking out at people who had not a single thing to do with Loughner’s deadly actions.

“All I can tell you is that teachers and fellow students were concerned about his bizarre behavior in class to the point where some of him (sic) were physically afraid of him,” Dupnik admitted to ABC News.

“He was acting in very weird fashion to the point where they had several incidents with him to the point where law enforcement at Pima College got involved and they decided to expel him. And they did.”

That should have alerted the Sheriff and compelled him to keep a close eye on the Loughner. Tragically, it didn’t, so the killer was free to slaughter some of the Sheriff’s constituents without interference from Dupnik.

The Sheriff is now busy trying to distract the public from recognizing his failure to protect his own member of Congress, a highly respected federal judge on his way home from daily Mass, and other innocent people from being attacked by a man he had to know was dangerous, especially when he was allowed to get within point-blank range of the congresswoman.

So in the strange world of Sheriff Dupnik, Rush Limbaugh’s use of his freedom of speech in warning against the destructive policies of liberalism is “irresponsible,” while his own poisoned rhetoric is permissible.

Incredibly, Dupnik has suggested that Uncle Sam put a gag on Americans by setting up a Goebbels-like “kind of commission” that would apparently “deal with civility and make recommendations on how to get it back.”

That’s apparently his view of what freedom of speech means — freedom to have it regulated by Big Brother. Yet he insists he has nothing against what he called “heated arguments.”

There’s one consolation for having to put up with the rants and ravings of possibly senile public officials, and that is the fact that this guy is an elected official and the public can dump him if he stands for re-election. At that time they will have an opportunity to replace him with a new sheriff more like his colleague, fellow Arizona lawman Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

I worked for this Sheriff between 1978 and 1995 when I retired as a sergeant (I actually joined the Pima County Sheriff's Department in 1973). The Department as a whole is a fine organization with dedicated men and women – nearly 400 commissioned law enforcement officers covering an area larger than the area of Connecticut and Rhode Island combined. The Department has a colorful history going back to the time when Wyatt Earp was one of its deputies.

The Sheriff has, sadly, outlived his professional police career – he should have retired 15-20 year ago – yet, the stifling politics of the left, which saturate Pima County, maintain him in office to the embarrassment of many. It is unfortunate that he chose the Giffords situation to go on this pathetic political rant – I'm embarrassed by it, personally, but please don't think that this reflects in any way on the decent and professional men and women of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Yes, Dupnik is simply trying to cover his as_. If this maniac had not been the 'child' of a fellow county employee, he would have been 'booked' and therefore unable to pass the FBI roster to get a gun. Dupnik is far solely responsible for the killings than any WORDS of ANYONE!

Then we have the Dems (Dims) who are frantically trying to cash in on this opportunity to gain power over their unsophisticated base. It is most telling in that they (the DEMS) have no high esteem of the people they lead. Instead, they, the DEMS , are certain that their base will fall for the verbal shenanigans the DEMS are serving up. Pathetic!

How our country has changed. Does anyone recall any comments such as these following the attempt on President Reagan's life?

    • chollybygolly says:

This is more like the two Manson girls's attempts on President Ford's life, although Hinkley was certainly a granola nut bar. There wasn't any comment on that in the media either. Floyd gets it about right when he points out Dupenik's (The word is from Russian and means "someone easily manipulated." I employ the original spelling here for clarity.) assertion that the words have a varying meaning depending on who utters them. This is typical of Democrats.

    • Angelicsweep says:

What about the recent killings at Ft Hood? Why was the media so quiet about THAT? I can only guess. Also the reason that obama was so quiet about it. Remember that it was BUSH that went and consoled the families of the slain there in Ft. Hood…NOT obama. But he sure made it his mission to go to Arizona to stir up as much hate (his community organizer career kicking in)against conservatives as he could. It would be funny if it weren’t so serious about how the left ALWAYS has something hateful to say about the conservatives when something tragic happens. Most of the time it is actually themselves they are talking about. This article is a good example of that. IF the sheriff had done his job with this nutcase, this would have never happened. Now he is out there blasting the conservatives for something that is actually HIS FAULT just to take the heat off himself. This sheriff is a coward among other things! A COWARD for not taking responsibility for his NONaction conserning this nutcase!

Three men – a Canadian farmer,
    Barack Obama
and a Biker, are all walking together one day.

They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it.
'I will give each of you one wish, which is three wishes in total', says the Genie.
The Canadian says, 'I am a farmer and my son will also farm. I want the land to be forever fertile in Canada'
POOF! With the blink of the Genie's eye, the land in Canada was forever fertile for farming.
Obama was amazed, so he said, 'I want a wall around Kenya, Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq and Iran so that no infidels, Americans or Canadians can come into our precious land.'
POOF! Again, with the blink of the Genie's eye, there was a huge wall around those countries.
The Biker says, 'I am very curious. Please tell me more about this wall.'
The Genie explains, 'Well, it's about 5,000 feet high, 500 feet thick and completely surrounds the country. Nothing can get in or out; it's virtually impenetrable.'

The Biker sits down on his Harley,
cracks a beer, lights a cigar,
smiles and says, 'Fill it with water.'

Once Upon a Time a Muslim Broke into a House

AMuslim burglar broke into a Christian home one night. He shone his flashlight around, looking for valuables, and when he picked up a CD player to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying "Jesus is watching you." He nearly jumped out of his robe, clicked his flashlight out and froze.

When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, clicked the light back on and began searching for more valuables. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, "Jesus is watching you." Frightened, he shone his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.

"Did you say that?" he hissed at the parrot.

"Yep," the parrot confessed, then squawked, "I am just trying to warn you."

The Muslim relaxed. "Warn me, huh? Who among the Jinn of the underworld are you?"

    "Moses," replied the bird.

"Moses" the Muslim laughed. "What kind of stupid infidel would name a parrot Moses?"

"Probably the same kind of infidel that would name their Rottweiller Jesus," the bird answered.

If a white man says bad things about a black man it is considered a hate crime. This liberal Sheriff is just as guilty but will go unpunished. The sheriff is a typical lib trying to use hatered and vitriol to cause problems for patriotic citizens . When will it ever end? Not until there are no more libs standing.

  8. chollybygolly says:

It's a pure coincidence, of course, like the 47 violently deceased bodies trailing off behind Bill and Hillary Clinton who in life had no connection except through one of them, but there were rumblings even before this happened about Obama's need for an Oklahoma City bombing to boost his sagging ratings. Now, as if by a pure miracle of God, such an incident takes place, taking with it a Republican judge and a Republican turned "moderate" Democrat congresswoman.

I wonder, can Sheriff Dupenik spell "Reichtag Fire"? Or is that too inflammatory, even for him?

    • betterpolitics says:

How amazing that every time obama needs some sort of lift, we have some sort of crisis. Almost as if someone wih a ton of money is manipulating these tragedies. Ya think!!!

ThE HUMAN RACE IS FULL OF NUT JOBS. SOME ARE ELECTED OFFICIALS SUCH AS DUPNIK.

  10. 05Magnum says:

Just more proof as to how nuts the Liberal Democrats really are. Anything that happens, that they don't agree with, is the Republicans fault. And our wonderful Media picks up the ball & carries it on for weeks. Dupnik needs to be committed along with the Loon who did the shooting. Watch the gun control idiots go crazy now.

  11. Raymond says:

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner was the early funder of the marijuana legalization movement, but funding over the last couple of decades has come from billionaires George Soros, University of Phoenix founder John Sperling, and Progressive Insurance executive Peter Lewis.

President Barack Obama is an acknowledged former user of marijuana, as well as cocaine, and promised the drug lobby that he would ease up on prosecutions of marijuana users.

    • carolrhill814 says:

All of these men are crazy as a bed bug but who is even crazier is Barry Soetoro (Obama).

It just seems nobody saw that interview with the two (2) girls that went to school with Barry and they were scared to dealth to think that he would end up to president because he would do anything to anyone who would cross him as far as his drug selling and his private drugs and just look what he is doing to all of us now he is President just as the girls said but nobody seemed to have seen those interviews.

  12. susanehmann says:

the libs put him in office the people need to put him out of office these people that don't like our country can leave it anytime .

    • carolrhill814 says:

I couldn't agree with you more if I tried. The fact of the matter his parents knew he had a big problem along with so many other ones in his community and schools and didn't do enough to stop him in his tracks and not harm anyone granted the Sheriff knew he was trouble but where were his parents the very first line of defense.

  13. danorseman says:

Clarence Dupnik is an embarrassment and a disgrace to the seat he holds, and I pity the good people who reside in Pima County that have to put up with the rhetoric that states Dupnik's pro-lib/anti-conservative views. Such rhetoric brings in shame to the entire county. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was very critical of his counterpart, stating that if Dupnik was the chief of police, he would have been fired immediately!!!

It is Dupnik's responsibility to be there to aid and comfort those who have lost loved ones and not resort to this despicable B.S. called the blame game that brings in more pain during a moment of healing, which goes to show that he has outlived his welcome as an irresponsible, inept hypocrite who is supposed to be a representative of law and order. He should resign immediately!!!

    • hijinx60 says:

Dupnik is indeed a disgrace. The news said that Loughtner went to a Wal-Mart to buy ammo that morning and was refused, so he went to another and sucessfully made the purchase. If a Clerk at Wal-Mart could see that something was wrong, why couldn't the sheriff?? Possibly because Loughtner was a democrat like himself.

  14. carolrhill814 says:

Don't people in general remember the old American saying everytime you point at someone three fingers always point back at yourself if they did remember that the blame game would end.

  15. CDeBarrows says:

It's a slur on Sherrif Arapio's name to even call this clown a "colleague" and "fellow Arizona lawman" of his! This is a "lawman" who openly stated that he wouldn't enforce SB-1070! What kind of a lawman is it that won't enforce the law? What's the matter with the Citizens in Pima County? The majority of the Sherrif's Dept. are decent folks, I'm sure, as stated by Laurence Cripe in the comment above, but Dupnik heads the Department up and sets policy – he needs to be retired so he can spew his gibberish on his own time, not the taxpayers.

  16. Irosin says:

I believe there is a problem that starts in the classroom where some of these radical, communist, progressive high school teachers and college professors are teaching our kids what they believe in, while NOT teaching, HONEST and TRUE American history, and about our founders, the Constitution and patriotism in the classroom. Instead they are teaching our young people communism, Marxism, fascism, radicalism and terrorism. Just look at all the people such as Bill Ayres and Bernardine Dohrn, Frances Fox Piven, Van Jones, Joel Rogers and many, many others who surround Obama, who were themselves radical nut jobs and are now professors teaching their beliefs to our students. How can these people be in these positions? These teachers and professors need to be removed from the classrooms before they do anymore harm.

  17. bjcoop says:

YES FOLKS I AM SORRY TO SAY, SHERIFF CLARENCE DIPSHIT IS ONE OF THOSE DEMOCRATS WHO SUBSCRIBES TO THE DOCTRINE OF " NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WASTE" ITS INBRED INTO THEM FOLKS, THEY JUST CANT RESIST. WE SHOULD ALL KNOW THAT BY NOW. BUT SHAME ON THEM FOR DOING THIS, CONSIDERING ALL THOSE WHO WERE KILLED AND WOUNDED. TOO SAD.

  18. Raymond says:

    Q. Why does Barack want higher taxes?
    A. Cause he won’t be the one paying them.

Q: What's the problem with Barack Obama jokes?
A: His followers don't think they're funny and other people don't think they're jokes.

Q: What’s the difference between a zoo and the White House?
A: A zoo has an African lion and the White House has a lyin’ African.

    Q. What do Obama followers drink?
    A. Koolaid, of course.

    Q. What does Barack Obama call lunch with a convicted felon?
    A: A fund raiser.

Q: What's the difference between Obama's cabinet and a penitentiary?
A: One is filled with tax evaders, blackmailers and threats to society.
The other is for housing prisoners.

You are being accused of being complicit in the obviously insane mass murderer, Jared Loughner's, crime.
Our hearts are open and prayers go to the fallen, the injured and the dead in Arizona this entire week.
But you and I are in major trouble right now because cold blooded liberals are using the tragedy to gain political advantage.
I am reminded of the mad look in Jared Loughner's eyes when I see the desperate fanatic left foaming at the mouth charging conservatives, me and every one of my supporters who sign petitions as "being responsible for the killing."

As the Left decries a "vitriolic" political dialogue marked by irrational anger and ignorance they are, in fact, describing themselves.

  20. paulrevere101 says:

You will never be able to speak out again against thousands of officials with endless wrongful policies we find out about and oppose.
With the outrageous lies that Palin "targeted" the Congresswoman who was shot and that talk show hosts and conservative groups "directed" this madman to pull the trigger, there is a reverse momentum which we must immediately respond to.
To stop the power grab using the fallen victims, call Senator John McCain at his Phoenix, Arizona Phone: (602) 952-2410 Ask him to call for the removal of the local Sheriff, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who is leading the effort to abandon the investigation and attack conservatives.

  21. paulrevere101 says:

Tell the Senator to make sure the FBI criminal division is in charge and that the House and Senate oversight committees get regular briefings.
Call the Governor Jan Brewer at (602) 542-4331 or email her by filling in a form at http://azgovernor.gov/Contact.asp
Ask her to immediately call for the removal of Sheriff Dupnik who is clearly not doing his sworn duty by being on television 24 hours a day.
The governor must declare him derelict and clearly incompetent in office and step in with state police or cooperate with federal authorities.

I happen to like Glenn Beck and enjoy his program. That being said, one must be able to distinguish between his conservative views and his religious views. Christians need to be careful that they don't allow truth mixed with error to persuade them to adopt views that contradict the Bible. At risk of offending many who enjoy Glenn, I hope you will allow this article to sober you to keeping a balanced perspective when listening to or watching Glenn.

In August of 2010, I it was only a matter of time before Glenn Beck would release a distinctively religious book that would promote his New Age Mormonism and universalism. I sensed that Glenn was setting himself up to be the politically conservative alternative to Oprah.

Many self-professing Christians cannot see what Beck is up to but there are those in the unsaved world that seem to be exhibiting more worldview understanding than some in the Christian community. The Business Insider published an article on January 4, 2011 entitled, Glenn Beck's New Year's Plan Sounds A Lot Like Oprah's New Network.

Last week (second week of January 2011) Beck released his latest book entitled The Seven Wonders That Will Change Your Life. The book is co-authored by psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow.

Beck's new book is nothing less than the promotion of universalism, postmodernism, and pagan spirituality, also known as the New Age Movement.

Glenn Beck is a practicing Mormon that is also embracing New Age paganism.

Some of these "Christian" leaders said that Beck was a "new Christian", "a baby Christian", "new brother", a "little lamb", or "very close to becoming a Christian." If they think Glenn Beck meets the Biblical descriptions of a Christian then they have no clue what the book of 1 John says are the Biblical hallmarks of a true follower of Jesus Christ.
